Casric Stars winger Mfundo Thikazi has broken his silence on the transfer rumours that linked him to Kaizer Chiefs during his stint with the now-defunct Royal AM.
Mfundo Thikazi was reportedly on Chiefs’ radar for several seasons during his tenure with Royal AM in the Betway Premiership. The highly-rated winger established himself as one of the PSL’s standout attackers, utilising his dazzling skills to both score and create goals.
Thikazi spent four seasons with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, having joined from Bloemfontein Celtic after the club sold its top-flight status to the Royal AM hierarchy.
Following the acquisition, Thikazi emerged as the heartbeat of Thwihli Thwahla, tormenting defenders with his explosive pace and technical ability. To date, the 26-year-old has made 78 appearances across all competitions, netting 12 goals and providing two assists.
His impressive form saw him repeatedly linked with a high-profile move to Gauteng, with Amakhosi reportedly identifying him as a primary target in previous transfer windows. However, a move to Naturena never materialised. The situation took a drastic turn when Royal AM was expelled from the PSL due to severe financial crises, including a reported R40 million tax debt owed by the club’s president, Shauwn Mkhize.
WHAT MFUNDO THIKAZI SAID ABOUT REPORTS LINKING HIM TO KAIZER CHIEFS

Following the expulsion of Royal AM, Thikazi joined another KZN outfit, Richards Bay FC, on a free transfer. However, his stint with the Natal Rich Boys was short-lived, lasting only a few months before he parted ways with the club. He has since surfaced at Casric Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Thikazi has now addressed the long-standing reports linking him with Amakhosi, revealing that while he was aware of the speculation in the media, a formal approach for his signature never materialised.
“I used to hear that Chiefs wanted me from the media but the chairlady [Shawn Mkhize] has never told me anything because I was more like her child but I used to see on social media people saying Kaizer Chiefs wants me but that wasn’t in my mind, I just continued with my work and making sure that I score goals.” the attacker said in an interview with FARPost.
Thikazi and his teammates at Casric Stars are fighting for automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership season, and they are also in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup, where they face Durban City FC on Saturday.
