‘This season could be special for Galaxy’: Beganovic seeks reprieve in Nedbank Cup

TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic is refusing to let the 6-0 humiliation by Orlando Pirates demoralise his side as they face Milford FC in a Nedbank Cup semi-final tie at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga on Sunday.

The Rockets will be looking to dust themselves off from the potentially morale-sapping defeat, going into the tricky encounter against the Motsepe Foundation Championship side. This is a competition that TS Galaxy won in 2019 while they were still in the National First Division [NFD].

But now a top-flight league outfit, Beganovic’s side is eyeing glory amid a difficult season. They are currently 11th on the Betway Premiership table and struggling to get into the top half. Galaxy are seeking relief from the Nedbank Cup.

While still celebrating eliminating Mamelodi Sundowns from the Nedbank at the quarter-final stage, Galaxy fell from a high to the bottom when Pirates pumped half a dozen goals past them in a league encounter just before the FIFA international break.

While that result could potentially break them, a bullish Beganovic sees his men successfully fighting for a happy ending to the season.

“We thought about this game a lot in the last 15 days. During this FIFA break, we put more attention to preparing our team physically and also mentally,” said Beganovic.

“We know how important this game is for us. We have a great opportunity to write our own history in 2026. This season can be special because we are already there.

“We beat many big teams in this competition. I think we have a great opportunity to fight. Also, this game against a strong opponent leading in that second division, the Motsepe Foundation [Championship], playing to get promotion to the Premiership, we need to be ready and think about that game properly.

“If we want to cross into the final, I think we need to be on top and accept and respect the opponent.”

On their way to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, Galaxy swatted aside Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns and amateur side Jacksa Spears FC.

Milford, on the other hand, are attempting to achieve the Rockets’ 2019 feat after seeing off challenges from SSU M-17 FC, Mkhambathi FC and Sekhukhune United to reach the last four.
