Durban City FC are one step away from securing silverware this season after their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Casric Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-final tie at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
This win ensured that the KZN-based outfit booked a spot in this year’s Nedbank Cup final.
The match started on high note, with the hosts looking to find the back of the net in the opening minutes of the encounter. Durban City’s persistence paid off as early as the 6th minute of the showdown.
In a moment of misfortune for the visitors, Casric defender Sphamandla Mlilo inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a dangerous cross.
That early blunder proved to be the decisive moment of the showpiece, as the former Gavin Hunt-coached side held onto their lead for the remainder of the contest.
Despite several attempts from Casric to find an equaliser, the Durban City backline remained resolute, neutralising the Mpumalanga club’s attacking threats to see out the result.

DURBAN CITY LEADING CASRIC STARS AT HALF-TIME
The showdown went into the half-time break with the home side leading the visitors with a 1-0 scoreline.
In the second stanza, the momentum shifted in Casric’s favour as they pushed desperately for an equaliser, but Durban City’s defence remained solid.
Meanwhile, the intensity improved, with the home side trying hard to add to the scoreline, but their efforts in front of the goal were not good enough.
However, the final whistle blew, confirming Durban City’s final spot in the Nedbank Cup tournament after their 1-0 win against Casric from the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
As a result, Durban City now shifts their focus to the grand finale, where they await the winner of the second semi-final clash between TS Galaxy and Milford FC on Sunday, 5 April, at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium [15:00].
