Former Pretoria Callies coach Fabio Lopez has confirmed that he will not be renewing his contract with Liberian side FC Fassell after a tough challenge for the premiership title.

Lopez has been in charge of the club since the beginning of the season after leaving the former Motsepe Foundation Championship club, Callies.

He transformed the clubโ€™s fortunes, lifting them from a 10th-place relegation battle to a sustained title charge, where they pushed leaders Watanga for most of the season.

But the former Atalanta and Fiorentina scout, who still has a cup final confirmed to FARPost that he will be seeking a new challenge at the end of the season.

“I came here in November, and the team was 10th in the league. Until a few weeks ago, we were number two, a point behind the log leaders a week ago,โ€ said Lopez.

โ€œBut we had the suspension of our goalkeeper until now, we had to play with our third choice, and we had to pay the price. Anyway, we played our 12th match without losing a game. We had nine wins and three draws and only conceded three goals. So I think we have done a good job at the moment.

“I came back from the first division last season with Pretoria Callies. It was only my first time in the first division because in other countries, I only worked in the Premier division and national teams. At the moment, we are still fighting for the title and in the cup final. But at the end of the season, I will not stay at the club. I will not renew, and in the next season I will be looking for options.”
