Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng was the star of the show as Orlando Pirates beat visiting Golden Arrows 5-0 in a Betway Premiership match at Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old struck a brace while Oswin Appollis also grabbed a double as Arrows goalkeeper Edward Maova scored into his own net to help the Buccaneers record a convincing victory. Despite the big win, the Soweto giants remain second in the standings, with two points fewer than log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, Pirates have scored 45 goals in 23 league matches this season and have a better goal difference of 36, having conceded just nine goals. Tuesday’s win was a follow-up to the 6-0 hammering of TS Galaxy just before the FIFA international break.
Pirates have now have scored 11 goals in two games without reply. It could also be interpreted as a statement of intent by a side keen to win the league title for the first time since 2012.
For Mofokeng, Tuesday’s brace came after he also struck a hat-trick against TS Galaxy to seal five goals in two matches. To underline his top form, he has been named as Man of the Match in six PSL matches this season.

It is a term he has scored nine league goals and made five assists. The slippery star has made himself a serious contender for the PSL Footballer of the Year award. Mofokeng’s form might also highlight Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou‘s tactical ingenuity.
After the Bafana star struggled in the earlier stages of the season, the Moroccan froze him out. But following the 2025 AFCON, he switched Mofokeng from being a winger to a playmaker.
It is a role Bafana coach Hugo Broos has also approved of. The Belgian insists Mofokeng is best suited as a number 10 to allow him more movement.
MOFOKENG ON NO.10 ROLE AS HIS PERFECT FIT AT PIRATES
“I think the style we play here at Pirates, a 10 is suitable for me. I’m not really someone who likes running. I’m someone who prefers tiny spaces,” Mofokeng said on SuperSport TV.
“So, I think number 10 position is fine for me. Even on the wing I like to play but the best for me is the 10 position.”
