Ethan Chislett cautions Kaizer Chiefs over recent results

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Ethan Chislett is refusing to read much into Amakhosi’s recent run of three successive Betway Premiership victories as they gear up to host TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Sunday.

After the Soweto giants went for a four-match losing streak and with pressure mounting on the team, they have managed to bury that difficult spell. Their resurgence started with edging Durban City FC 1-0, before posting a similar result against Magesi FC.

That was followed by the 3-1 win over Orbit College FC earlier this week, boosting the Soweto giants’ chances of finishing the season in the top three. They are currently third on the table going into the TS Galaxy assignment.

But Chislett is not getting carried away by the three consecutive wins, insisting they can improve on their recent outings.

“Obviously, we are in good spirits from the last game. Confidence is high, although we know that we can improve and do better,” said Chislett. “We can’t rest on previous results; we need to forget about them and focus completely on TS Galaxy, which is what we are doing.”

Chislett himself returned to the Amakhosi matchday squad against Orbit after missing two straight games. The Durban-born star only made his Chiefs debut in February and has so far made four appearances, including three starts and one bench appearance.

He would be hoping to return to the starting line-up against struggling TS Galaxy. The Rockets are on an eight-match winless streak in the league, recording seven defeats and a draw.

But Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi is wary of letting that run fool Amakhosi.

“They [TS Galaxy] are a team that shows character and a strong mindset despite some of their recent bad results, so that will make it a tough game for us because they’ll be looking to replicate their cup form in the league. They are in the Nedbank Cup final,” said Velebayi.

“But we are also in a positive position, having won our last three games, and we are aiming to build on that and keep our run going.”

The game this afternoon will start at 15:00 in Soweto with all three points at stake.
