Cedric Kaze addresses coaching credentials and ‘translator’ remarks

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze addressing members of the media

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has addressed the “translator” remarks circulating on social media and the ongoing scrutiny of his coaching credentials.

The Burundian tactician has occasionally faced scrutiny from sections of the Soweto giants’ fanbase, with some labelling him as a mere “translator.”

This stems from his previous role, where he often assisted former head coach Nasreddine Nabi in bridging the communication gap during their time together at Chiefs.

Kaze was appointed as co-coach of Chiefs on October 10, 2025, stepping in following the departure of coach Nabi.

However, Kaze, who boasts impressive coaching qualifications, including a CAF A License, a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Science, and experience in the football structures of Germany and Spain, is unfazed by the noise.

Kaze was speaking following Amakhosi’s 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy in their Betway Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

‘I KNOW WHAT I’M CAPABLE OF’: CEDRIC KAZE

Addressing the pressure that comes with the Amakhosi hot seat, Kaze highlighted his journey from Burundi to South African football as evidence of his capability.

“I know that football is quite difficult and social media and everything, things that are important and whose opinion is important. But the biggest thing is the trust that we have from the club and the trust that we have in ourselves,” said Kaze.

“I’m in the biggest club in South Africa. I was born in Burundi, a small country. What are the odds I would be here? This means that I have been in very big spaces. Those things [being called a ‘translator’] don’t hurt me personally because I know what I’m capable of.”

Kaze went on to emphasise that the support they get from the Glamour Boys’ hierarchy outweighs any external criticism.

“With the trust that we have from the club, we are going to do everything to place the team where it belongs,” he added.
