Betway Premiership outfit Polokwane City FC have opted to snub the 46,000-capacity New Peter Mokaba Stadium in favour of a smaller venue for their highly anticipated league encounter against Kaizer Chiefs.
The two sides are scheduled to lock horns on Saturday, 18 April, with kick-off set for 17:30. This fixture marks a busy period for the Soweto giants, as it will be Amakhosiโs second competitive match within the space of four days in the city of Polokwane.
Before facing ‘Rise and Shine’, the Glamour Boys are slated to navigate a tricky clash against relegation-threatened Magesi FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, 15 April. That particular fixture was originally pencilled in for Wednesday, 26 November 2025, at the same world-class venue; however, the PSL was forced to postpone the match due to Chiefsโ extensive travel and participation requirements in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Immediately following the midweek battle against Magesi, Chiefs will shift their focus to a showdown with Polokwane City, who are currently fighting tooth and nail to solidify their position within the coveted top-eight bracket of the standings.
POLOKWANE CITY FC CHOSES TO HOST KAIZER CHIEFS AT OLD PETER MOKABA STADIUM
This publication has gathered that it was the home side’s decision to take the match to the 16,000 capacity venue. It is for the first time that Polokwane City hosts Amakhosi at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Previously, a game of this magnitude has been hosted at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, given the number of spectators expected, due to Chiefs’ popularity and other security and logistical reasons.
Despite hosting league matches against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, both of which draw large crowds, the stadium was not at capacity.
A LARGE NUMBER OF CROWDS EXPECTED FOR THE POLOKWANE CITY AGAINST CHIEFS MATCH
It remains to be seen how many tickets will be issued for the game and what security plans will be in place, given that the demand for tickets for the Chiefs match could be higher. Tickets for the match between Polokwane City and Chiefs are selling at R60 each.
The venue serves as Polokwane City’s regular home venue while the FIFA 2010 World Cup facility next door is their alternative. The new stadium is home to Sekhukhune United, while Magesi FC, who are based in Seshego, also use it as their alternative.
Efforts to solicit a comment from Polokwane City on logistical preparations were unsuccessful. The Polokwane Municipality, which owns the facility, was also not available for a comment.
