Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has given an assessment of Khanyisa Mayo after the striker broke his goal drought in the 4-1 victory over Magesi FC on Wednesday night at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Mayo scored the fourth goal for Amakhosi when they defeated Magesi in the Betway Premiership to register their fifth successive win in the league. The Soweto giants have been in a rich vein of form after beating Durban City FC, Orbit College FC, TS Galaxy, and securing a double league over Magesi.

Mayo has joined the list of players looking to make an impression after breaking his goal drought. Mayo has had a challenging start to life in the colours of Chiefs after joining the club in July 2025 on a season-long loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad. The 27-year-old has battled injuries that derailed his chances of making a meaningful impact with the Glamour Boys, despite making 14 appearances across all competitions.

After netting a confidence-boosting goal against the Limpopo-based side, Khalil Ben Youssef has admitted that injuries impacted Mayoโ€™s progress. But the coach is optimistic that the forward will help Chiefs in attack in the remaining matches of the campaign.

โ€œI think he [Mayo] has been doing a lot. He was a little bit unlucky with injuries, but he’s back. Heโ€™s performing very well in training, and he’s fighting,โ€ Ben Youssef said.

โ€œHeโ€™s fighting, I think he was a little bit unlucky in the last few games not to score, but he scored his second goal [of the season], and he will help the team a lot.โ€
