Polokwane City FC head coach Phuti Mohafe has expressed his bewilderment over the decision to award Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe the Man of the Match following Saturdayโs goalless draw in the Betway Premiership.
Mohafeโs charges held Amakhosi to a goalless stalemate at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, bringing Chiefsโ five-game winning streak to an abrupt halt.
The result keeps the Rise and Shine in seventh place on the log standings with 34 points from 24 outings, while third-placed Chiefs move to 46 points with 18 still up for grabs.
However, Mohafe was left aggrieved by the post-match accolades, questioning the Man of the Match selection and insisting his side deserved more than just a point from the encounter.
โWe had the better opportunities to score. We created a lot of chances but continued to miss them, especially in the second half. In the last 25 minutes, we were all over Chiefs,โ said Mohafe. โWe also defended well, and the most important thing is that we didn’t concede.โ

Mohafe added: “I am so confused about how Maboe got the Man of the Match. I don’t know how he got it because he was nowhere to be seen on the field. Whenever he got the ball, we were there. We got most of the balls from him. So how can he be the Man of the match because he was losing the balls? So I think we played better.โ

Mohafe went on to say midfielder Manuel Kambala, left-back Tlou Nkwe, as well as winger Simon Ramabu, should have gotten the nod ahead of Maboe.
“Let’s go back to who was marking Maboe? [Manuel Kambala]. We go again, and we say we had Tlou on the left, who deserved the Man of the Match. You have Ramabu on the right-hand side. He gave them [Chiefs] problems; he deserved to be the Man of the Match. So why not? Give them the Man of the Match.”
