FC Ravens have been crowned the SAFA Eastern Cape overall champions following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Old Grey in the provincial decider played over the weekend.
The showdown took place at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Saturday, 18 April. Ravens came into this encounter as winners of the Inland Stream, while Old Grey were the champions of the Coastal Stream.
Last season, the club suffered a major setback when they and Sinenkani FC were disqualified from the national playoffs following protracted legal disputes within the province.
As a result, Ravens will now officially represent the Eastern Cape in the upcoming national playoffs due to take place in June. SAFA will announce the province that will host the playoffs in due course.
Over to the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League, Luthuli Brigades FC are Stream B, winners. So far, they have collected 42 points after 17 games.
Luthuli Brigades secured their top spot following a 2-0 walkover win against Sibange Young Bucks at Elukwatini Stadium on Sunday, 19 April. They are now set to face Stream A winners, Phezulu FC, in the provincial decider to determine who heads to the national playoffs.
Meanwhile, in Limpopo, Mpheni Defenders have successfully clinched Stream A after a resilient campaign as they are yet to lose a game. The side moved to 48 points from 20 matches following a 1-1 draw against Baduzah Celtics at Lulekani Stadium in Phalaborwa on Saturday, 18 April. Having secured their stream, Mpheni await the winners of Stream B to battle for the provincial crown.
