Orlando Pirates attacker Andre de Jong has made a bold prediction for the future of Relebohile Mofokeng, tipping the talented youngster to walk away with the PSLโ€™s most prestigious individual accolade.

Mofokeng has been pivotal for the Buccaneers in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, proving to be one of the trusted figures for head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The highly-rated winger has been a consistent performer for Pirates as they battle Mamelodi Sundowns for the Premiership title, looking to end a league drought that extends back more than a decade.

Mofokeng scored a stunning goal in Piratesโ€™ previous match when they defeated AmaZulu FC 3-0 at Orlando Amstel Arena last weekend. The other goals for the Soweto giants came from Yanela Mbuthuma and Oswin Appollis, securing crucial three points.

The School of Excellence graduate is carrying the hopes of Pirates fans for the league title, having featured in 22 league matches, scoring 10 goals, and contributing 10 assists. As a result of his rich vein of form, Mofokeng has been tipped by football fans and pundits to win the Footballer of the Season award.

The 21-year-old is also in the running for the Golden Boot accolade as heโ€™s three goals behind the current top scorer Junior Dion of Golden Arrows, who has netted 13 goals, while Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners is in the second position with 11 goals.

During a media briefing on Thursday ahead of the Soweto Derby, Andre de Jong backed Mofokeng for a bright future, tipping the youngster as a strong candidate for the Player of the Season accolade.

โ€œTo see him [Mofokeng] and training with him banging in goals is really nice. I think he’s got a massive future ahead of him and I think he’s probably up for the Player of the Season award,โ€ De Jong said. โ€œSo hopefully that goes to him or Oswin [Appollis], I think they are both deserving of it.

โ€œFor me, just experiencing the young players, I think heโ€™s [Mofokeng] up there with the best. I had Jayden Adams at Stellenbosch FC, and he was ticking nicely at that time. Tshepang [Moremi] at AmaZulu FC was also good, so Iโ€™ve been lucky to play with a lot of these guys. I think they have a bright future; hopefully, they can go overseas at some point to test themselves.โ€
