Betway Premiership side Polokwane City FC have been forced to move their league match against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns from Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to the Seshego Stadium, FARPost has established.

Polokwane City and Masandawana are set to lock horns on Wednesday, 29 April. The match was originally scheduled for 15 April 2026.

However, the showdown was moved to the new date due to Sundowns’ CAF Champions League commitments. The Chloorkop-based outfit reached the Champions League final for the second consecutive season after defeating Tunisian giants ES Tunis 2-0 on aggregate last weekend.

After hosting both Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, at their regular venue, the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, FARPost has it on good authority that Rise and Shine will take their clash against the Brazilians to the Seshego Stadium,ย just outside Polokwane.

THE SESHEGO STADIUM CAPACITY

Following major renovations completed in 2025, Seshego Stadium now meets PSL standards. The facility boasts a brand-new 5,000-seat grandstand, bringing the total stadium capacity to 15,000.

Just a few days ago, Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe hit back at critics over the choice of the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium for their Kaizer Chiefs league clash. Fans and pundits alike had been pointing fingers at the Limpopo side, questioning why a high-profile fixture against Amakhosi was scheduled for the 16,000-capacity venue rather than the 45,000-seat “New” Peter Mokaba Stadium.

โ€œThis [Old Peter Mokaba Stadium] is our home ground. So, where must we play? We deserve to play on this home ground because at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, they [Chiefs] take us to their home ground,โ€ Mohafe said.

โ€œWe deserve to play here, not anywhere else, because when we go away, we play on their field, so why not? Let us continue playing at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. It suits us better, and we do well when we are playing on this field.โ€

WHY POLOKWANE CITY FC HAS TO PLAY MAMELODI SUNDOWNS AT SESHEGO STADIUM

The decision comes after the venue [Old Peter Mokaba Stadium] is expected to host a COSATU May Day rally taking place on Friday, 1 May 2026. Seshego is also home to fellow Betway Premiership side Magesi FC, who are currently fighting for survival. Sitting in 14th place, they are hovering just a single point above the relegation zone.

Due to the preparations of the event where the president of the country, Cyril Ramaphosa, is expected to attend, Polokwane City were forced to seek an alternative venue. It also appears that the New Peter Mokaba Stadium is unavailable, as it is set to host the 2026 Nedbank Cup final between Durban City FC and TS Galaxy on Saturday, 2 May.

Before their showdown with Sundowns, Mohafeโ€™s charges host Stellenbosch FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

The Limpopo outfit currently sits seventh on the Betway Premiership table, having collected 34 points from 24 fixtures. In contrast, ‘Bafana Ba Style’ occupy second place with 57 pointsโ€”trailing log leaders Orlando Pirates by just a single point with a crucial game in hand.
