Mofokeng has been in red-hot form at Pirates, dishing out match-winning performances under the guidance of head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. The highly-rated attacker has been instrumental in the Buccaneers’ quest for the Betway Premiership title, as they tussle with Mamelodi Sundowns for top honours.

Mofokeng scored for Pirates in their last match, a 3-0 victory over AmaZulu FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena last weekend. in the league. The result propelled the Buccaneers to the top of the log with 58 points from 25 games.

The 21-year-old has now taken his league tally to 10 goals in 22 appearances, placing him third in the Golden Boot race—trailing only Junior Dion [13] and Iqraam Rayners [11].

Following his impressive performances throughout the 2025/26 season, Mofokeng has become the most-talked-about player in the PSL, with fans and coaches alike debating his best position. The talented youngster arrived at Pirates from the club’s development side in 2023 as a winger; however, in recent months, he has flourished in a more central No. 10 role.

With Mofokeng finding his best form following a slow start to the season, Mosimane has shared his thoughts on the youngster’s best position, arguing that he is better suited as a No. 10.

“Mofokeng is a top talent; he’s very intelligent. There is always a challenge on whether he is a winger, striker, or a 10,” Mosimane said on Marawa Sports Worldwide on 947.

“It depends on how you use a 10. If you play a 4-3-3 [formation], there is no 10—there’s a 6 and two 8s. But if you play a 4-2-3-1, then he’s a 10. If you play like Unai Emery, with wingers coming inside a lot, then he’s not [just] a winger; he fits in well in that Aston Villa-style shape.

“He’s a half of everything, but what I like is that now he is scoring goals. We used to know him for assisting a lot, but now he’s scoring.”
