Monyane explains Chiefs’ approach to Siwelele tie amid unbeaten run

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabiso Monyane insists they are not “getting carried away” by their unbeaten run as they prepare to tackle Siwelele FC in a Betway Premiership match at Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Wednesday night.

Fresh from a 1-1 Soweto Derby draw against Orlando Pirates, Amakhosi will be in the City of Roses, seeking to bounce back to winning ways. The Soweto giants are buoyed by having not tasted defeat in their last seven outings. They are on a run of five wins and two draws.

That has kept alive their hopes of finishing the season in the top three. Should they attain that, they would secure a berth for continental football next season. They arrive in Bloem without feeling the pressure of their ever-demanding fans. The supporters were angry a few weeks ago when positive results were eluding them. However, the recent turnaround has begun to restore belief among the faithful.

Sitting third on the table, Chiefs clash with Siwelele, who are 11th. The hosts’ four-match winless run and keenness to recover make them potentially dangerous to Amakhosi, who will be out to avoid an upset after building a respectable run of form in their recent outings.

Monyane says their form will not make them underestimate Siwelele tonight at 19:30 CAT as he explains Chiefs’ approach to this game.

“We are not expecting an easy game and do not underestimate any opponents; we go out there and give it our best every time,” said Monyane.

Chiefs have switched focus from the Soweto Derby. “We have just played the derby, but this is an equally important game. We have analysed them [Siwelel] and have planned accordingly, and now we must go and execute it well again.”

The Amakhosi right-back has emphasised that Chiefs remain grounded and focused amid their encouraging run of form, as they guard against complacency.

“We are in the final stretch of the season, and it’s important for us to keep going. We have some good momentum going at the moment, the team is doing well; we are in a good space, spirits are high, without getting carried away,” Monyane added.

He added that “we take each game as it comes. We aim to finish on a high and make our supporters happy.”
