Kaizer Chiefs co-coach has interrogated his side’s mindset following Wednesday’s 2-0 Betway Premiership defeat by Siwelele FC and made a frank admission about the impact of the result.
Siwelele put a halt to Amakhosi’s seven-match unbeaten run through two first-half goals by Tebogo Potsane and Siphesihle Jeza at the Free State Stadium. It was a frustrating evening for the Soweto giants, who had arrived in Bloemfontein enjoying a run of five wins and two draws.
That form had maintained the Soweto giants’ grip on position three, where they still are, but risk having fourth-placed AmaZulu FC closing in on them. Five points separate Chiefs and Usuthu with four games to go before the campaign ends.
Before Wednesday’s match, Chiefs right-back Thabiso Monyane had warned his teammates against getting carried away by their unbeaten streak. But Kaze has come out probing the team’s mentality after the defeat.
The Burundian had admitted that the loss might be a blow to their bid to achieve their season goals. This comes as they face title contenders and log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns next Wednesday.
‘NO EXCUSES’ FOR CHIEFS AS KAZE SLAMS PLAYERS’ MINDSET

“We said that our main objective is to finish as high as we can. It’s true that the result tonight [Wednesday] put a dent in our ambitions,” said Kaze.
“But we say that as well, we need to rise from this one. I wouldn’t say that it was complacency, but I would say that we didn’t have the right mindset to get into this game.
“From the beginning, the first minute we lost a lot of duels, we made a lot of technical mistakes that led to a lot of transitions and where we didn’t win our battles.
“I don’t want to find any excuses because there is no excuse for that, because we have been talking about that for the last two days that we need to get our minds right going into this game.
“We knew that we were playing a good opponent, which they showed, but we need to do better than that.”
