Four NFD teams chase playoffs spot, Leopards on the brink of relegation

Cape Town City FC against Gomora United

With Kruger United crowned the Motsepe Foundation Championship winners, four teams are now fighting for the top three finish to qualify for the PSL promotional playoffs, while Black Leopards are on the brink of relegation to the ABC Motsepe League.

Kruger gained automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership for the 2026/27 season after winning the title with two matches to spare. The Mpumalanga-based side sealed its fate with an impressive 3-1 win against Leopards.

United have been one of the exciting teams to watch in the Championship, collecting 58 points having won 17 league games, seven draws, and four defeats in 28 games.

Meanwhile, Milford FC, Cape Town City FC, Hungry Lions FC, and Casric Stars are pushing to finish in the second and third spots to fight for promotion in the playoffs.

As it stands, Milford and CT City are sitting second and third with 50 and 48 points, respectively. The Cape Town-based are occupying the third spot with a superior goal difference over Hungry Lions, while Casric are on 46 points.

On the other hand, Leopards are holding on for dear life in the second tier as they have slim chances of surviving relegation to the amateur league. Lidoda Duvha are 15th on the log with 25 points, and they are five points behind 14th-placed Midlands Wanderers.

The Thohoyandou side could follow their Limpopo rivals Baroka FC, who have already been relegated to the Motsepe League for next season. Leopards will be aiming to win all their remaining games and hope that other results go in their favour to avoid the axe.
