Chivaviro, Webber, Motlhalo score as Mayambela clinches Cyprus title

Ranga Chivaviro in action in Saudi Arabia

Ranga Chivaviro, Jamie Webber, Linda Motlhalo, and Mihlali Mayambela were the standout performers, as the majority of the Mzansi footballers abroad failed to make a major impact.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Chivaviro scored a goal and provided an assist as Al Adalah registered a 2-1 win over Al-Anwar on Saturday at the Prince Abdullah bin Jalawi Stadium.

Chivaviro has been the team’s mainstay in goalscoring, having scored 13 goals in 26 matches for the club. He has also provided two assists for the club in their bid to maintain their status in the Saudi First Division.

They face Abha Club in the next match scheduled for Friday, 8 May. Abha Club were previously coached by veteran SA coach Pitso Mosimane. Chivaviro will need to be at his best as Al Adalah needs a win to ensure safety. As it stands, they sit in 15th position on the Saudi First Division log table with 27 points from 32 matches, with two games remaining before the curtain goes down.

MIHLALI MAYAMBELA ACCOUNTS FOR SECOND LEAGUE MEDAL IN CYPRUS

In Cyprus, Mayambela was an unused substitute as Omonia FC beat his former team Aris Limassol 3-0 at GSP Stadium on Saturday. The win confirmed Omonia FC as the 2025/26 Cypriot First Division title winners, with four games to spare.

Omonia FC achieved an unassailable 61 points after 26 games. Mayambela, who recently returned from injury, was on the bench and will hope to get more game time in the remaining matches as the club seeks to end the season on a high note.

The 29-year-old will also be hoping to bounce back to the top, having fallen down the pecking order in the Bafana Bafana set-up. This is the second time Mayambela has won the league title in Cyprus, having helped Aris Limassol win the Cypriot First Division League title for the first time in their history in the 2022/23 season.

Meanwhile, former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids led Raja Casablanca to a 1-0 win over Difaa El Jadidi at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca on Sunday. The win lifted them to third place on Morocco’s Botola Pro standings, with 36 points from 18 matches.

In the USL Championship, Webber was on target as FC Tulsa beat Monterey Bay 2-1 at the Cardinale Stadium on Sunday. He scored in the 49th minute before FC Tulsa secured the narrow win.

Banyana Banyana star Motlhalo was also on target, albeit in a losing effort, as her Glasgow City FC suffered a 3-2 loss to Celtic FC in extra-time in the Women’s Scottish Cup semi-final on Saturday. Motlhalo scored their first goal.
