Former Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang Mokoena has backed the R68.6 million valuation of Relebohile Mofokeng, saying more European teams will circle to find out more about the Bafana Bafana star.

Afroscout describes itself as being built around consistent, manual scouting of Under-23 African-trained players, using multiple match observations to assess performance stability rather than one-off highlights.

That methodology is designed to give clubs a more reliable, long-term view of a player’s ability to handle different match environments and opposition levels.

While still expanding its database, Afroscout has become a reference point for agents and clubs looking for structured insights into emerging CAF talent. Its credibility has grown precisely because it moves away from algorithm-only rankings, prioritising instead repeated live evaluations.

According to Afroscout, Mofokeng is the highest-valued U-23 player based in Africa at R68.6 million. He is followed by Senegal’s Mamadou Lamine Camara and Nigeria’s Onuche Ogbelu, both valued at R58.8 million. Mali’s Seydou Dembele follows at R39.2 million, while Morocco’s Fouad Zahouani is listed at R35 million.

LEBOHANG MOKOENA BACKS MOFOKENG’S INCREASED VALUE

Former Pirates midfielder Mokoena believes the valuation raises wider awareness for the 21-year-old Sharpeville-born star. Welcoming the Afroscout report, Mokoena noted that such platforms provide crucial visibility for African players in a market where European scouts cannot always be physically present.

“I think it is a great platform [Afroscout] in terms of getting these great players from Africa and giving them an opportunity,” Mokoena said on the Soccer Beat podcast.

“It is not all the time that you will get scouts coming from Europe to monitor these players. So once you have that kind of a profile, to make that list, it is something worth celebrating,” he added.

“His name is out there. Not only one club but a couple of them will want to look into him. The boy has done well. I think his statistics will speak for themselves. And with the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming up, that figure can go up. And only if South Africa does well there,” the former Pirates attacker added.

Since his promotion to the first team in 2023, Mofokeng has won several individual awards and cup competitions with Pirates. He has made 100 appearances, contributing 29 goals and 31 assists, alongside a handful of Bafana Bafana caps.
