It was a blissful weekend for Bafana Bafana hopeful Gift Links after winning the Danish Superliga title, a few days after his nomination for the prestigious 2025/26 Player of the Season award.
He was the outstanding Mzansi Footballer abroad this weekend. The talented winger, Links, has been vital for AGF Aarhus, and this season they have been merciless as they accounted for the Danish Superliga title with one match to spare following their victory over Brondby IF on Sunday.
They beat Brondby IF 2-0 in a match that was played at Brรธndby Stadium. Links provided an assist for their first goal. AGF Aarhus secured an unassailable 64 points in 31 matches.
Plausibly, the SA star now goes down in the club’s history as part of the crop of players that broke their jinx to win the league title for the first time since the 1985/86 season.

SPECIAL SEASON FOR GIFT LINKS AMID BAFANA BAFANA HOPES
What makes this special is that Links has been so good this season and is in line to win the 2025/26 Player of the Season award, as he was nominated. Links is among eight other players who were nominated for the prestigious award.
As such, Links joins former FC Copenhagen striker Sibusiso Zuma among the South Africans to have won Denmark’s top flight. Siyabonga Nomvethe, a Bafana Bafana legend, also clinched the Danish Superliga title with Aalborg Boldspilklub back in the 2007/08 season.
According to Transfermarkt, the Rustenburg-born star made 37 appearances this season, where he managed to register five goals and seven assists. Crucially, Links will be hoping his sterling form earns him a place in Hugo Broos’ provisional squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. Broos is expected to reveal his provisional selection this week.
Meanwhile, Mihlali Mayambela and his Omonoia FC are basking in glory after winning the 2025/26 Cypriot First Division league trophy. However, they drew 1-1 with AEK Larnaca on Sunday in a match that was played at the GSP Stadium.
This is the second time Mayambela has won the league title in Cyprus, having helped Aris Limassol win the Cypriot First Division League title for the first time in their history in the 2022/23 season.
