Nodada gives fascinating take on title deciding clash with Pirates

Orlando Pirates in action with Magesi FC

Durban City FC midfielder Thabo Nodada has given a fascinating take on the Betway Premiership title deciding clash with Orlando Pirates on Saturday afternoon.

The KZN-based side will travel to Orlando Amstel Arena to visit Pirates, who are gunning for maximum points to clinch the league title to end Mamelodi Sundowns’ eight-season dominance.

Pirates are on the verge of ending their drought in the Premiership, having last won the league back in 2012. The Sea Robbers have been on an impressive run of form in the 2025/26 season under the leadership of Abdeslam Ouaddou, who took over the hot seat in July 2025.

The Soweto giants have given Sundowns a run for their money in the chase for the title, and Pirates are one step away from dethroning the Brazilians with a win against Durban at the sold-out Orlando Amstel Arena.

Pirates are welcoming City at home as one of the clubs that are on form, as they have been ruthless in front of goal, which includes beating TS Galaxy and Golden Arrows 6-0 and 5-0 in the past few weeks.

Meanwhile, Durban City are clashing with Pirates, looking to solidify their place in the top eight, and they’re also fresh from winning the Nedbank Cup.

With the Farook Kadodia-owned side aiming for a big upset against Pirates, Nodada admitted that facing the Houghton-based side will be a tough task, especially in front of their home fans.

“We are not going to enjoy that game, I saw a record that the stadium is sold out on a Tuesday,” Nodada said, speaking to the media in Durban.

Recalling his past matches against Pirates during his time at Cape Town City FC, Nodada said, “We drew with them, so to be in the position we are in, why us?

“Why do we come from [winning] the Nedbank Cup final, and you have a chance to decide something that is so far from your reach. Look, it’s a game of football, it’s 90 minutes, we’ll go there and do our best, and if our best is better than their best, then good luck to them.”
