The Bees FC head coach, Joel Masutha, has confirmed that he still needs to sit down with the club management regarding his future after helping the club save their PSL status in the second-tier league.

Masutha was tasked with saving the club’s Motsepe Foundation Championship status after taking over from former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane.

The 2018 National First Division-winning coach finished 10th with the newcomers, collecting 35 points from 30 games. That record included nine wins, eight draws, and 13 defeats, leaving them just four points shy of a top-eight finish.

Crucially, they survived relegation by seven points in a season that saw former Betway Premiership sides Baroka FC and Black Leopards relegated.

Masutha joined the club on a short-term contract. And now that he has fulfilled his mandate to save the club by avoiding the dreaded axe, there have been questions about whether the coach will remain at The Bees or move on.

“In football, you must never say never. We have to sit down with the management [of The Bees] and discuss the way forward. But hopefully, I will stay,” Masutha told FARPost.

Masutha also showed his gratitude to the club management, saying he felt at home since joining them.

“I am a soldier. Everywhere I go, I feel at home and try to make the most of whatever I get given. I had a nice time in Tonga [in Mpumalanga]. So we will see what happens.”

JOEL MASUTHA IS HAPPY TO HAVE SAVED THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE FROM RELEGATION

“I am extremely happy to see the club being saved from relegation. Looking at where we are coming from and where we are right now, I have to commend these boys. The hard work that we put in, and also the management for not interfering in whatever we were doing, they just wanted results.

“I knew that we were going to make it. But at the same time, you can’t do it without the players’ commitment. They have worked hard, and the supporters have also been behind the team. So all in all, I can say I am a proud coach.”
