Mongoya reacts to Kruger United’s post-promotion assurances

Kruger United coach Abram Mongoya has vowed to repay the faith shown in him after club management assured him he will remain in charge for their upcoming Premiership campaign.

Mongoya guided Kruger United to a historic promotion to the Betway Premiership after winning the 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship title.

The 40-year-old took over at the beginning of the season after initially leaving the club for a short stint at Upington City. FC.

He also served as an assistant coach when Kruger gained promotion via the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs in Upington in 2024.

KRUGER UNITED TO KEEP THEIR COACH AFTER PROMOTION TO THE ELITE LEAGUE

It is a trend in South African football that most clubs that gained promotion to the elite league dump young coaches who helped them gain promotion for the so-called experienced ones.

However, the Kruger United management has come out to assure Mongoya and his technical team that they will remain in charge following their promotion to the Premiership.

Speaking after the final match of the season last weekend, where Kruger played out to a 2-2 draw against The Bees, Mongoya expressed his gratitude for the vote of confidence from the club.

“More than anything, I am humbled by the club showing confidence,” said an emotional Mangoya.

“Firstly, I am grateful that they took a risk with me, a young coach with an unknown technical staff. Members of the technical staff that I recommend are unknown in the football space.”

Mangoya’s technical team includes his three assistants, Promise Hlatshwayo, Themba Masango and Simon Marange. Sports Scientist: Lehlohonolo Matsoso; goalkeeper coach: Thembalethu Moses; team Physio: Ntokozo Mashaba.

Other backroom staff members are: Abel Modiba [Team Doctor], Siboniso Makhabane [Team Manager], Mehla Thusi [Equipment Manager], Douglas Gama [Kit Manager], Jabulile Nkosi [Media Officer] and Jeffrey Vilane [Bus Driver].

“I knew it was people who would put in a lot of effort behind the scenes. More than anything, I am grateful to the management for taking a risk with an unknown coach and also for them to show a vote of confidence to say I can also coach in the premiership,” he added.

“I am humbled and grateful and can only give back to the trust they showed in me with the best performances and doing my best in the premiership.”
