Orlando Pirates goalkeeper  Sipho Chaine has opened up about his ultimate dream to represent South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making a candid admission about his Bafana Bafana selection chances.

Chaine has been in superb form for the Buccaneers this season, helping the club to win their first league title in 14 years.

ORLANDO PIRATES GOALKEEPER SETS NEW PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE RECORD

Chaine has also set a new PSL record by keeping 21 clean sheets in a single campaign. It is the most clean sheets ever achieved by a goalkeeper in a single Betway Premiership season. However, his selection for the Bafana squad ahead of the World Cup remains in doubt.

Despite being in great form, the 29-year-old was surprisingly left out of the Bafana squad for the two friendly international matches against Panama in March. Instead, coach Hugo Broos opted to give Sekhukhune United’s Renaldo Leaner a chance.

Chaine has now been named in the preliminary squad alongside Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns, Brandon Peterson of Kaizer Chiefs and Ricardo Goss from Siwelele.

Broos is expected to announce his final squad on Wednesday, 27 May, before the team jets off to Mexico, where they will be based.

Speaking after his side were crowned 2025/26 Betway Premiership Champions in Mbombela, Chaine admitted that it is his dream to be one of the players at the tournament.

WHAT DID SIPHO CHAINE SAY ON BAFANA BAFANA WORLD CUP SQUAD SELECTION

“Yes, it’s every player’s dream to represent their country at the World Cup,” Chaine told Journalists.

“The most important thing is to control what I can. It’s playing every day here at Orlando Pirates like it’s my last game.

“What I can control is the amount of saves that I can get, the amount of crosses I can collect and the communication with everyone around me. That has gone well and the rest you leave it to God. The rest you leave it in the Lords hands,” he said.
