Brandon Truter has addressed his long-term future with Chippa United after arriving at the club with one match left before the end of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Truter sat on the bench in the final match of the campaign when Chippa claimed a crucial 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium last weekend to retain their status in the top-flight.

The former Richards Bay FC coach took over the coaching job at Chippa over a week ago with a mandate to help the side avoid relegation.

After just a few days at the helm, Truter orchestrated a big win against Amakhosi, which moved Chippa to the 13th position on the league table with 28 points in 30 matches.

With the Eastern Cape-based side hoping for stability in the coaching department next season, they welcomed Truter later on in the season without any clarity on his contract situation. The ex-Moroka Swallows tactician became the sixth coach to lead Chippa in the previous season after having Sinethemba Badela, Musa Nyatama, Morgan Mammila, Luc Eymael, Vusumuzi Vilakazi, and Hlanga Dikeni in the hot seat.

WHAT TRUTER SAID ABOUT HIS FUTURE AT CHIPPA UNITED

The experienced mentor has opened up on his future at Chippa, revealing that he will remain at the helm in the upcoming season. Truter says he held talks with the club chairman, Chippa Mpengesi, to discuss plans for the pre-season in preparation for the 2026/27 campaign.

“Yeah, there was a lengthy discussion with the club. The discussion was around the next season and starting the pre-season,” Truter said. “There’s no use coming here for one game.”

“So we agreed contractually that I will be here next season, starting with the pre-season. So coming in, there is a principle and an identity to grow the club.

“And with a lot of changes of coaches in the past years at Chippa, you see what’s lacking. If you look at previous games, you see a lack of structure because if you have five to six coaches during the season, everyone comes with ideas of how football should be played, and there are a lot of adjustments for the players.

“Chippa is one of the teams that didn’t go for a break during the 2025 [AFCON], we have to be mindful of that so that we don’t suffer a burnout [in the next season].”
