Stellenbosch FC has announced the exit of highly-rated Bafana Bafana defender Thabo Moloisane following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Moloisane is leaving the Winelands-based side with his contract set to expire on the 30th of June 2026 after he turned down the contract renewal.

The talented centre-back has been a solid figure in the backline for Stellies, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the PSL.

Moloisane has also captained Stellenbosch in the past two seasons after Deano Van Rooyen left the club to join Orlando Pirates. The 27-year-old has proven his qualities after featuring in over 100 matches for Stellenbosch across all competitions with four goals and three assists to his name.

Moloisane has been with the Western Cape outfit since July 2023 after signing for Maritzburg United, who are now known as Durban City FC.

On Wednesday, the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup champions bid farewell to Moloisane. The Gavin Hunt-coached team revealed that the highly-rated defender informed the team that he wants to leave when his contract expires. In the past few months, Moloisane has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs for the 2026/27 campaign.

With Moloisane now a free agent, he could sign with the Glamour Boys on a free transfer to begin a new chapter in Gauteng.

“Stellenbosch FC can confirm that the Club and Thabo Moloisane will part ways at the end of the season upon the expiration of the player’s contract,” the club said in a statement.

“Moloisane has informed Stellenbosch FC of his intention to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract after spending the last three seasons in the Cape Winelands.

“The 27-year-old joined the Maroons from Maritzburg United in 2023 and made 115 appearances across all competitions, helping the team win the Carling Knockout, reach back-to-back MTN 8 finals, and qualify twice for the CAF Confederation Cup.

“During his spell with the Maroons, Moloisane emerged as one of the standout defenders in South African football and earned five caps for Bafana Bafana, while also receiving a nomination for the 2024-25 Betway Premiership Defender of the Season award. He departs with the club’s gratitude and appreciation for his leadership and service over the past three seasons.”
