Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi is entering the final stretch of his current deal with Golden Arrows, which is set to expire at the end of the month, with uncertainty now surrounding whether he will remain at the club.
Mngqithi has done well with Arrows this season, guiding them to a sixth-place finish. Abafana Bes’thende will play in the MTN8 next season after amassing 41 points from 11 wins and eight draws. They lost 11 times and were the fourth-best scorers in the Betway Premiership behind champions Orlando Pirates, African champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.
Last season, the Arrows finished 12th, missing out on a top-eight spot. They only managed to score 20 goals in a 28-game season.
While no official decision has been made, there is a growing sense within the Arrows camp that retaining the veteran mentor could prove difficult, despite the club’s strong desire to keep him at the helm.
Mngqithi, who returned to Arrows in March 2025 for a third spell in charge, has once again brought stability to the Durban-based side. His extensive coaching background includes a highly successful and influential period at Mamelodi Sundowns, during which he was part of a dominant era in South African football.
At Sundowns, he served in multiple roles over more than a decade, including assistant and co-coaching responsibilities during a period marked by sustained league success and continental triumphs. His time there ended in late 2024 following structural changes within the club.
MANQOBA MNGQITHI’S INFLUENCE AT GOLDEN ARROWS
Back at Arrows, Mngqithi has remained a steady and respected presence, but with his contract now nearing expiry, the club is understood to be weighing up its options while quietly bracing for the possibility that he may move on.
Interestingly, several of the club’s players have excelled under his tutelage this season and are attracting interest from clubs across the continent. Sede Junior Dion finished as the top goalscorer with 14 goals and is being linked with clubs such as Simba SC of Tanzania and Pyramids FC.
Ivory Coast midfielder Isaac Cisse has been impressive too and is on the radar of clubs like Al Ahly. Ayabulela Maxwele and Siyanda Ndlovu have also caught the eyes of a number of clubs, including North African suitors.
