Siwelele FC and Nyiko Mobbie have entered into fresh negotiations over the defender’s future after a contractual issue cast uncertainty over his stay at the club.

The Bloemfontein-based outfit had hoped to retain the experienced defender beyond the current season after he impressed with his versatility in the 2025/26 campaign.

Mobbie joined Siwelele following the club’s acquisition of SuperSport United‘s Betway Premiership status ahead of the season. Although naturally a right-back, the 31-year-old successfully transitioned to a more central defensive role as the campaign progressed.

His performances reportedly convinced the club to retain him. However, FARPost understands that a technical issue with the option in his contract has prompted both parties to revisit discussions about a new agreement.

As things stand, Mobbie’s current deal is due to expire on 30 June 2026, prompting renewed focus on his long-term future at the club.

The situation means the Bafana Bafana defender could become a free agent if the parties fail to reach an agreement before his contract expires.

Despite the uncertainty, Siwelele remains eager to retain the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender and has already begun discussions to extend his stay. The club values his experience and leadership, particularly given his involvement with the national team under coach Hugo Broos in recent years.

FARPost understands that negotiations are ongoing, with all parties exploring a solution that could allow Mobbie to remain at the club beyond the current transfer window.

However, the defender has also attracted interest from elsewhere, meaning he will have options to consider if a new deal does not materialise.

Although injuries disrupted parts of his season, Mobbie remained an important member of the squad, making 18 appearances in all competitions.

His experience and leadership qualities remain highly regarded as Siwelele prepare for the 2026/27 season following their 10th-place finish in the Betway Premiership.
