FARPost has established that Betway Premiership side Durban City FC and Namibian international striker Joslin Kamatuka have officially parted ways.

The 34-year-old forward leaves the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit following a memorable three-season spell, during which he established himself as a key player at the club. Kamatuka’s existing contract was set to expire at the end of June, and this publication has gathered that management has opted against exercising the option to renew his stay ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Kamatuka will be best remembered for his talismanic contributions during the 2024/25 season, where he played a pivotal role in guiding the Nedbank Cup champions back to the elite league from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. His ruthless form in front of goal saw him finish that campaign as the club’s top goalscorer with an impressive 15 goals.

Over his three-year tenure with the KZN side, the Brave Warriors striker racked up a commendable total of 28 goals across all competitions.

In the recently concluded Betway Premiership campaign, Kamatuka’s influence was heavily restricted due to a harrowing facial injury. The attacker featured in just 19 matches, netting two league goals.

The turning point of his season occurred during a high-stakes league encounter against Orlando Pirates. Kamatuka had to be rushed to the hospital after being struck in the face by a powerful clearance from former Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Despite the frightening nature of the incident, the resilient striker made a full medical recovery and returned to feature in a handful of matches toward the tail-end of the season.

Having previously turned out for Baroka FC and the now-defunct Cape Umoya United, the experienced frontman enters the upcoming transfer window as a free agent.

WILL THERE BE MORE EXITS AT THE ‘TEAM OF CHOICE’ AHEAD OF THE NEW SEASON?

Kamatuka becomes the second high-profile player to exit Durban City this week, following the departure of Bafana Bafana left-back Terrence Mashego.

As FARPost previously reported, Mashego’s parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns, exercised their option to recall the 29-year-old and extend his contract at Chloorkop for another season. Mashego spent the previous campaign on loan in Durban after struggling for regular game time in Pretoria.

The loan switch proved to be a masterstroke, as the South African international rediscovered his finest form to become a mainstay in Durban City’s defence.

With pre-season preparations looming, the Durban City management is expected to make further squad adjustments as they look to consolidate their position in the top flight.
