Ball in Kaizer Chiefs court to sign Tshegofatso Mabasa

Following Tshegofatso Mabasa’s exit from Orlando Pirates, FARPost has learnt that rivals Kaizer Chiefs have the ball firmly in their court to sign the highly-rated striker.

Mabasa parted ways with Pirates earlier this week after a few weeks of speculation around his future with the Sea Robbers. The Bafana Bafana international is leaving the Soweto giants with his contract expiring on the 30th of June 2026.

The talented forward struggled to break into the Pirates matchday squad in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Ouaddou relied on Evidence Makgopa and Yanela Mbuthuma to share the scoring responsibilities as Pirates clinched a treble in the 2025/26 season.

The Sea Robbers won the MTN8, Carling Knockout Cup and Betway Premiership title to end their 14-year league drought. After struggling for game-time last season, Mabasa went out on loan to Stellenbosch FC in the January 2026 transfer window.

Following the conclusion of his six-month loan deal with Stellies, Pirates decided to part ways with the goal poacher who was chasing the 58th goal mark to surpass the all-time goal-scorer record from Benedict Vilakazi. ‘Sniper’ left the Ghosts with 50 goals under his name in over 130 appearances across all competitions.

With Mabasa currently a free agent and weighing his options, FARPost understands that the representatives of the attacker are in talks with Chiefs, and the decision now lies with the club to conclude the deal.

Furthermore, this publication understands that Mabasa is keen on listening to local offers first before considering the attention from outside the country, as he has also attracted interest from North Africa.

Should the deal go over the line, Mabasa will reunite with his former Pirates teammates Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane, who are the latest names to cross the ship.
