Motsepe Foundation Championship side Highbury FC have parted ways with their star forward, Naeem Amoojee, ahead of the upcoming season.

Amoojee, who previously turned out for former PSL sides like Baroka FC, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] and Moroka Swallows, leaves the Eastern Cape-based outfit after a stellar individual campaign.

The 29-year-old frontman joined Highbury in August 2025 as a free agent following his departure from Leruma United. He had enjoyed a decent mid-season stint with Leruma after joining them for the second round of the campaign, netting six goals in 15 appearances despite the club’s eventual relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of the 2024/25 season.

He carried his scoring form to Highbury FC, establishing himself as an important figure in the team’s attack. In the just-concluded Motsepe Foundation Championship season, Amoojee finished as the club’s top goalscorer, finding the back of the net nine times and providing two assists in 28 appearances across all competitions.

His impressive goal-scoring displays were instrumental in guiding Highbury to a sixth-place finish in the league standings, securing 42 points from 30 outings.

NAEEM AMOOJEE’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON HIS DEPARTURE FROM HIGHBURY FC

Following his exit, Amoojee released an official statement expressing his gratitude to the club’s leadership, his teammates, and the supporters for their unwavering backing during his time in the Eastern Cape.

“As I move on from Highbury FC, I want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey,” Amoojee stated.

“To my teammates, coaches, and the entire staff – thank you for your trust, belief, and support every step of the way.

“To the fans – your passion, encouragement, and love made every game unforgettable. Highbury will always be a special chapter in my story,” he concluded.

Having proven his worth as a reliable goalscorer in South Africa’s second tier, the experienced forward will now look forward to his next chapter as a free agent.
