Highbury FC are striking a fine balance between seasoned experience and youthful exuberance, welcoming veteran right-back Gregory Damons to the club alongside Stellenbosch FC duo Kyle Bailey and Zaydee Marang ahead of the new season.
Damons’ return to Gqeberha comes after spending the past two seasons in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with Venda FC and Pretoria Callies. The club expressed their delight at the homecoming, noting that the veteran brings “valuable experience, defensive quality, and a strong work ethic to the squad” as they look to build on last season’s success.
After finishing the 2025/26 season sixth on the table, the Eastern Cape side has shown no signs of slowing down in the transfer market. While Damons adds veteran grit, Highbury has also invested heavily in the future, signing 17-year-old talent Tashreeq Rademeyer from Urban Academy.
Furthermore, defender Cole Breda has arrived to reinforce a defence that conceded 33 goals last term, while midfielder Mpho Miya completes the current wave of influx, joining from NC Pros.
In the midst of the new signings, Highbury coach Kabelo Sibiya has opened up on their transfer plans as they bid for promotion to the Betway Premiership next term.
“What is most important is to keep the foundation that has been laid and try not to reshuffle a lot, but bring in a few players that will come and add to what is already there,” Sibiya said as per the club’s media.
