Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the high-profile signing of former Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio Van Wyk, marking their first arrival ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The highly-rated attacker is joining Masandawana from SV Ried in Austria, where he established himself as one of the brightest South African talents playing abroad.
He penned a long-term deal with Sundowns – a clear statement of intent from the Brazilians, who are building a squad capable of clean-sweeping domestic and continental silverware.
The Tshwane giants are fresh from lifting the 2025/26 CAF Champions League title after defeating Moroccan side AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate in a tightly contested two-legged final in May 2026. This victory marked Sundowns’ second Champions League gold medal, having clinched their historic first back in 2016 under former head coach Pitso Mosimane.
However, despite their continental glory, Sundowns surrendered their Betway Premiership crown to bitter rivals Orlando Pirates, who dramatically ended their 14-year league trophy drought. With Chloorkop now gunning for every piece of silverware on offer in the upcoming campaign, the club has actively begun beefing up the squad to cope with the heavy demands of competing across four domestic competitions and defending their Champions League title.
VAN WYK SPENT TWO SEASONS WITH RIED AFTER JOINING IN 2024 FROM STELLENBOSCH FC

In a first marquee signing for the next campaign, Sundowns have secured the services of Antonio Van Wyk from SV Ried. “Yellow Nation, Antonio Van Wyk joins the African Champions, ready to write his own chapter in yellow and blue,” the club said on social media.

The talented midfielder, who can also play on both wings, is returning to the PSL after leaving two seasons ago to join Ried from Stellenbosch FC.
During his spell with the Austrian side, the 24-year-old featured in 53 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing seven assists. He was a teammate of fellow South African international Yusuf Maart.
Maart signed with SV Ried at the start of last season from Kaizer Chiefs after helping the Soweto giants end their decade-long trophy drought with the 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph.
‘PROUD TO BE YELLOW’: VAN WYK REACTS TO SUNDOWNS MOVE
Meanwhile, speaking in his official Sundowns unveiling video, the dynamic attacker expressed his immense pride in joining a club of Masandawana’s elite calibre.
Reflecting on his European journey and his decision to don the famous yellow jersey, Van Wyk said: Spending time away has been an incredible experience that helped me grow as a footballer and as a person.”
On joining Sundowns, he added,: “This is one of the biggest clubs on the continent. A club with a rich history, high standards, and a winning culture.”
The new arrival, Van Wyk, also sent a direct message to the Masandawana faithful ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
“To the supporters, your passion for this club is unmatched, and I cannot wait to experience that… I’m excited for this journey. My name is Antonio van Wyk, and I’m proud to be Yellow.”
