Former Petro de Luanda winger Gilberto has officially joined Angolan Girabola outfit Wiliete SC. The move comes on the heels of his departure from Orlando Pirates, following a challenging, short-lived stint in South Africa.
The 25-year-old was confirmed last week as part of a group set to leave the Soweto giants when their contracts expire on 30 June 2026. He exits alongside Bandile Shandu, Sipho Mbule, Tshegofatso Mabasa, and Karim Kimvuidi. However, he has already secured his future, with Angolan outfit Wiliete officially announcing his arrival on Monday.
After being signed by Jose Riveiro at Pirates in July 2024, Gilberto spent six months in South Africa before being loaned out to his former club Petro Atletico. The arrival of Abdeslam Ouaddou also saw the former Morocco international not include him in his plans.
The loan deal at Petro Atletico was then extended for a season, before he was released by the Buccaneers ahead of the new 2026/27 season. What could have worked against the Angola international attacker is his struggle to make an impact at Petro Atlético, who could now also afford to lose him.
The attacker also lost his place in the Angola national team and was not part of the 2025 AFCON squad. He left Pirates after managing 12 appearances across all competitions without a single goal or assist before the prolonged time out on loan.
ALL IS NOT LOST FOR GILBERTO AFTER ORLANDO PIRATES EXIT
Gilberto has now joined Wiliete SC, who finished second in the Girabola last season. That earned them the right to compete in the CAF Champions League next season.
Gilberto has previously played Champions League football with 24 appearances for Petro Atletico and four for Pirates.
His experience also includes the Angola national team, having been at the 2023 AFCON tournament.
“Dribbling, speed and daring. Rivals’ terror has a new home. Originating from Petro de Luanda, Giberto, is the newest member of the most beautiful green family in the country,” Wiliete SC announced on Monday evening.
