Newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship side Hope FC have landed the services of former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Selwyn Stevens.

Hope FC are preparing for life in the second division for the 2026/27 season after securing a spot in the professional ranks through the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, earlier this month.

The Western Cape outfit booked a place in the Motsepe Foundation after finishing the playoffs as one of the top two teams, alongside North-West University, who are also promoted to the second tier.

Hope FC earned a remarkable promotion to the National First Division, barely a year after the club’s formation.

‘The Immortals’ have been under the leadership of the former Kaizer Chiefs man Keagan Buchanan, who is serving as the co-founder and CEO of the club. Buchanan has enjoyed immediate success in his executive role after guiding the team to a historic promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Following their formation in 2025, Hope FC assembled a solid squad blending experience and young talent. The Mother City-based side signed experienced campaigners such as Clayton Daniels, Craig Martin, and Ruzaigh Gamaldien.

With Hope FC preparing for the upcoming season, they beefed up their squad with former Downs winger Selwyn Stevens, who has proven his qualities in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side.

Stevens has also represented the SA junior national team at Under-17 level and played in major tournaments such as AFCON and the FIFA World Cup.

On Thursday, Hope FC announced the arrival of the talented attacker.

“Hope FC is proud to welcome South African youth international Selwyn Stevens to The Immortals,” the club said on social media.

“A player with immense talent, ambition, and a bright future ahead of him, Selwyn returns to the Mother City ready for the next chapter of his journey. We believe Hope FC is an environment where young players can grow, thrive, and fulfil their potential-and we’re excited to be part of that journey with them.”
