Motsepe Foundation Championship side Highbury FC have bolstered their squad ahead of the new season with the signing of attacking midfielder Sifiso Mbidana, FARPost can reveal.

The move comes after his exit from the University of Pretoria, where he spent two seasons.

The 23-year-old arrives with valuable experience, having played for several clubs since making his professional debut at 17 for Bizana Pondo Chiefs in 2020. He has also played for Pretoria Callies and Durban City FC during his career.

His signing forms part of Highbury’s ambitious recruitment drive as the club looks to build a competitive squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

The club has struck a balance between experience and youth in the transfer market, recently signing veteran right-back Gregory Damons and securing the services of the Stellenbosch FC duo Kyle Bailey and Zaydee Marang.

Highbury have further strengthened their attacking options with the addition of 22-year-old striker Luke Daniels, who previously represented Cape Town City FC and AmaTuks.

SIFISO MBIDANA EAGER TO HELP HIGHBURY FC

Mbidana first caught the eye during his time at the Eastern Cape club before earning moves to Pretoria Callies and later Durban City, where he spent two seasons. He subsequently joined Pretoria University, featuring for the Tshwane-based side over the last two campaigns.

His performances have previously been recognised at international level. Mbidana earned two caps for Bafana Bafana, both coming in the African Nations Championship [CHAN] qualifiers against Comoros.

He will be looking to help Highbury challenge in the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2026/27 campaign. Last season, they finished sixth after winning 12 games and drawing six. They missed out on a playoff spot by 12 points and will be looking to better that.

Known for his creativity, technical ability and attacking instincts in midfield, Mbidana is expected to add quality and experience to the Highbury squad as they continue preparations for the new season.

His arrival is part of the club’s efforts to strengthen key areas of the team ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive campaign in South Africa’s second tier.
