Orlando Pirates have completed the signing of exciting midfielder Matome Mmolai from Leicesterford City FC to further bolster their squad for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, FARPost has been informed.

The Soweto giants have been one of the busiest clubs in terms of transfer activity, bringing in quality players in a bid to maintain last season’s dominance, which saw them win a historic treble. Pirates clinched the MTN8, Carling Knockout Cup, and the Betway Premiership title to end their 14-year league title drought.

The Buccaneers are gunning for more silverware in the upcoming campaign, having already confirmed the signings of Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Sibangani Zulu, Bohlale Ngwato, and Ghampani Lungu.

In addition to those arrivals, Pirates have captured the signatures of Siwelele FC duo Neo Rapoo and Aphiwe Baliti, while Golden Arrows star Siyanda Ndlovu is expected to begin life at Mayfair, as previously reported by FARPost.

As the Sea Robbers continue their shopping spree, this publication understands that the club has secured another talented youngster in Matome Mmolai.

The skilful midfielder has penned a deal with Pirates and will be part of the squad undergoing routine medicals this week before kick-starting pre-season training.

Interestingly, Mmolai signed with TS Galaxy at the start of last season but was unable to feature in any official matches for the Rockets due to clearance issues. This was linked to Leicesterford, who had purchased the status of JDR Stars, where the 23-year-old was previously playing.

After spending the first half of the 2025/26 campaign at Galaxy without playing, Mmolai eventually returned to Leicesterford in January 2026 and quickly established himself as a regular starter.

The former Dondol Stars man went on to play a vital role in helping his side survive relegation, finishing 12th on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log with 34 points from 30 games.

Following his dazzling displays in the middle of the park—characterised by impressive ball-playing abilities and an eye for goal—Mmolai has now earned a big move to a star-studded Pirates side.
