South Africa’s Under-20 AFCON-winning midfielder Lazola Maku has officially parted ways with Siwelele FC following the expiry of his contract, FARPost can confirm.
The highly rated 19-year-old midfielder is now weighing up overseas opportunities after enhancing his reputation during Amajita’s historic triumph at the Under-20 AFCON in Egypt.
Maku was one of the standout performers for Raymond Mdaka’s Amajita side as South Africa lifted their first-ever Under-20 AFCON title, defeating Morocco 1-0 in the final in Cairo. His consistent displays in midfield earned him a place in the tournament’s Best XI, further elevating his profile among scouts and clubs abroad.
Sources close to the player have indicated that Maku is keen on securing a move overseas, with Europe firmly in his sights. Maku previously admitted he hoped the AFCON would serve as a launchpad for the next phase of his career.
“Like any other youngster, my dream is to play in Europe,” he said in a previous interview. “I want to move there now. Moving to Europe early really helps because you get exposed to a lot of things and you get to grow while time is still on your side.”
SIWELELE FC UNABLE TO KEEP LAZOLA MAKU

The Bloemfontein-based club were eager to offer him a new contract. However, the teenager is said to have made it clear he had his sights set elsewhere.
Maku, who hails from Westlake, Cape Town, began his football journey at the renowned Ubuntu Football Academy before he joined SuperSport United’s development structures in 2023.
His rapid rise was rewarded with a senior debut last season. He went on to make five appearances for the senior team. The defensive midfielder is known for his ball-winning ability, tactical discipline and defensive awareness.
