Kaizer Chiefs have handed defender Xolani Cossa a new two-year contract after he impressed during his loan spell with Botswana Premier League side Black Lions, FARPost has established.

The 22-year-old centre-back has committed his future to Amakhosi until June 2028 after returning to Naturena following a productive season in Botswana.

FARPost previously reported that Chiefs were expected to retain Cossa by exercising the option in his contract. The club has now rewarded the former DStv Diski Challenge captain with a fresh two-year deal.

The timing of the new deal also strengthens Chiefs’ defensive options ahead of a demanding campaign that includes CAF Confederation Cup football. The club recently saw Aden McCarthy depart for Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK, while Rushwin

Dortley’s return from a long-term knee injury is still being managed.

Cossa enjoyed an outstanding campaign at Black Lions, where he captained the side and established himself as one of the club’s most influential performers.

“Xolani was exceptional for us, very exemplary to all the players, a true professional. He made a huge impact at Black Lions, and he’s definitely going far in his career,” Black Lions president Tendani Sebata previously told FARPost.

His displays attracted interest from several clubs, including TS Galaxy, Kruger United and Milford FC, but Chiefs have opted to keep hold of the promising defender as they continue shaping their squad for the 2026/27 season.

Having gained valuable senior experience and leadership responsibilities in Botswana, Cossa will now aim to establish himself in Fernando da Cruz’s first-team plans as he looks to take the next step in his career.

He joined his teammates as they began pre-season at Naturena last week. He is expected to travel with the senior team to their European pre-season.

Chiefs have also reinforced their defence, bringing in Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC.
