Orlando Pirates playmaker Relebohile Mofokeng is reportedly on the verge of sealing a high-profile move to Belgian Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise ahead of the 2026/27 European season.
According to Belgian publication Nieuwsblad, the 21-year-old attacker is expected to travel directly from North America—following his historic FIFA World Cup campaign with Bafana Bafana—to Belgium to finalise the transfer.
Mofokeng’s imminent move to the UEFA Champions League-bound side caps off a meteoric rise to prominence. Since earning promotion from the Buccaneers’ DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] reserve team to the senior squad in May 2023, the Vaal-born talisman has rapidly established himself as one of the most exciting young talents on the African continent.
His domestic dominance was solidified last season when he inspired the Sea Robbers to a historic treble, lifting the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout Cup before ending the club’s 14-year league drought by dethroning Mamelodi Sundowns to claim the Betway Premiership title.
Mofokeng was a central figure in that championship-winning campaign, racking up 10 goals and eight assists across 27 league appearances. His stellar performances have seen him tipped by pundits and fans alike to win the Betway Premiership Footballer of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season accolades in the upcoming PSL awards.

The Belgian outfit’s interest comes on the back of Mofokeng’s impressive international displays. He was a key member of the Bafana Bafana squad that recently made history in North America, helping South Africa finish second in Group A alongside co-hosts Mexico to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the very first time, before their Round of 32 exit against Canada.
This followed his inclusion in the national squad for the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco earlier in the cycle.
In his three seasons with the Soweto giants, the young playmaker has already cemented his legacy in the iconic black-and-white jersey, contributing to over 60 goals across all senior and competitive appearances.
This is not the first time the highly-rated attacker has attracted interest from Europe’s elite. Mofokeng previously spent time on trial with English side Wolverhampton Wanderers and has previously drawn inquiries from Scottish powerhouse Rangers, as well as Spanish giants Barcelona.
However, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise now looks to have won the race for his signature, offering the South African international an immediate pathway into UEFA club competitions.
Nieuwsblad journalist David Van den Broeck took to social media on Monday to confirm the reports, tweeting that the Belgian side is closing in on the South African international.
“Union is close to signing a World Cup player: Relebohile Mofokeng (21), South Africa’s number 10,” Van den Broeck posted on X. “The diminutive Orlando Pirates playmaker will travel from the US to Belgium to finalise the deal.”
