Mamelodi Sundowns announce Peter Shalulile’s departure

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that striker Peter Shalulile is leaving the club after six years at Chloorkop.

The Namibian’s contract expired at the end of June, and the Tshwane giants opted against handing him a new deal. He leaves Masandawana as one of the club’s most prolific attackers after scoring over 100 goals in both domestic and continental competitions.

He also turned himself into one of the most feared strikers in the PSL era. The 32-year-old arrived at Sundowns ahead of the 2020/21 season from Highlands Park FC.

Pitso Mosimane signed Shalulile, but interestingly, the attacker did not get to officially play under the veteran coach, who then moved to Egyptian giants Al Ahly before the start that season.

“Peter Shalulile departs Mamelodi Sundowns as one of the club’s most prolific forwards,” the Brazilians announced the player’s exit on Thursday morning.

“Thank you for the goals, trophies, and the commitment in yellow. All the best for what comes next, Peter.”

PETER SHALULILE’S CAREER OF CHASING RECORDS AT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

What could arguably be Shalulile’s most memorable season in Sundowns colours was the 2021/22 campaign, when he scored 23 PSL goals. That was two strikes short of equalling Collins Mbesuma’s standing record of 25 league goals in one season, achieved during the 2004/05 term when the Zambian was turning out for Kaizer Chiefs.

Building on the scoring foundation he had laid at Highlands Park, Shalulile used the Sundowns platform to make himself the PSL’s all-time top goal-scorer. He struck 130 league goals to surpass Siyabonga Nomvethe, who found the back of the net 123 times.

However, attempts to overtake Danel Mudau as the Masandawana record scorer were futile, and he is also below Bennett Masinga on the Chloorkop scorers’ chart.

THE END OF A CHAPTER AND WHERE TO FOR SHALULILE?

However, the past three seasons have been difficult for Shalulile at Sundowns. He struggled for form, and it got worse following the arrival of Miguel Cardoso in December 2024.

Last season, the Namibia captain managed just six goals in 23 matches for the Brazilians across all competitions.

As first reported by FARPost, Zimbabwean PSL champions Scottland FC have tabled an offer for Shalulile. The Harare side has prepared a R4.1 million [$250,000] signing-on package to try and entice Shalulile.

Saudi side Al-Qadsiah is also understood to be interested in the striker.
