Kaizer Chiefs part ways with Tashreeq Morris

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed the departure of striker Tashreeq Morris after both parties agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.

The 32-year-old marksman leaves Naturena as the club swings the axe to make room for a massive squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

Morris, who previously played for Sekhukhune United, SuperSport United, Cape Town City FC and Ajax Cape Town, is part of a growing list of player casualties at the club. His departure coincides with the arrival of newly appointed French tactician Fernando Da Cruz, who has taken over the hot seat on a two-year deal.

Da Cruz arrived at Naturena this week to officially assume control, having spent the last two seasons serving as the technical director for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

A NEW ERA BEGINS AT NATURENA

With Da Cruz tasked with restoring the Glamour Boys to their former glory, the technical team is actively thinning out the squad to build a competitive unit capable of challenging for silverware. Morris’s exit follows other recent high-profile departures at Amakhosi, including Happy Mashiane and George Matlou, as management moves swiftly to hand Da Cruz a clean slate.

Da Cruz faces immense pressure from the Amakhosi faithful to reverse years of inconsistency. By clearing out experienced figures like Morris, the Frenchman has laid down a clear marker: only players who fit into his long-term tactical vision and high-intensity demands will remain part of the journey.

CHIEFS RELEASE TASHREEQ MORRIS

On Friday, Chiefs announced the departure of Morris, who is linked with a move to Durban City FC to reunite with his former coach at the Soweto giants, Khalil Ben Youssef.

“Following constructive discussions between the club and the player, Kaizer Chiefs and Tashreeq Morris have mutually agreed to terminate their contract,” the club said on the website.

“This amicable decision grants Morris the opportunity to pursue the next chapter of his career and join a team of his choice. We wish Tashreeq success in his future endeavours.”

Morris made 14 appearances across all competitions in his one-and-a-half seasons at Chiefs and scored one goal after signing with the club in January 2025 from the now-defunct SuperSport United.
