Kaizer Chiefs have completed their second official signing ahead of the 2026/27 season after securing the services of former Sekhukhune United shot-stopper Renaldo Leaner to bolster their goalkeeping department.
The Bafana Nafana international joins Amakhosi as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Sekhukhune. Leaner became a free agent last week, and Chiefs moved swiftly to bring the 28-year-old on board, having previously tracked the shot-stopper in past transfer windows.
The Ajax Cape Town youth product leaves Babina Noko after spending three seasons with the club. He had joined the Limpopo side ahead of the 2023/24 campaign from Maritzburg United, prior to the Team of Choice’s rebranding to Durban City FC.
During his time with Sekhukhune, Leaner’s consistent performances in the Betway Premiership earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up under Hugo Broos a few months ago for the international friendly double-header against Panama.
In total, Leaner made 40 appearances across all competitions for Sekhukhune, conceding 42 goals while keeping 15 clean sheets.
RENALDO LEANER COMPLETES KAIZER CHIEFS MOVE AFTER SEKHUKHUNE EXIT

With the shot-stopper at the pinnacle of his career, he completes a major move to the Glamour Boys to begin a new journey under head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
On Monday afternoon, Chiefs announced the signing of Renaldo Leaner, who will compete with Brandon Petersen, Fiacre Ntwari, Bruce Bvuma, Bontle Molefe, and Takalani Mazhamba for a place in the starting line-up.
Petersen proved his quality last season, staking his claim as the club’s number-one choice while Bvuma and Ntwari played second fiddle. Meanwhile, Molefe spent the campaign away on loan, and Mazhamba was primarily utilised in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side.
Leaner arrives as the Glamour Boys’ second acquisition in the current transfer window, following the arrival of defender Thabo Moloisane, who recently joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC.
“Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of renowned shot-stopper Renaldo Leaner,” Chiefs said on their social media platforms.
“Born in Cape Town 28 years ago, Leaner arrives at Naturena with a wealth of experience, having impressed last season and earned a number of call-ups to the Bafana Bafana national team. We proudly welcome Renaldo to the Khosi Nation.”
