Magesi FC coach reveals decision on Elvis Chipezeze future

Newly appointed Magesi FC coach Kabelo Sibiya has confirmed that club captain Elvis Chipezeze is staying put. The veteran goalkeeper remains one of the longest-serving players in the squad, having arrived from rivals Baroka FC in 2022.

He was instrumental in guiding the team to the Betway Premiership in 2024, and famously scooped the Man of the Match accolade in every single game during their historic Carling Knockout Cup triumph, where they stunned Mamelodi Sundowns in the final.

But despite his efforts, the Zimbabwean international could not prevent the Limpopo side from slipping down to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. The 36-year-old was one of the players believed to be leaving the club to seek greener pastures following Magesi’s relegation.

However, speaking during his official unveiling in Polokwane on Friday, Sibiya confirmed that Chipezeze is going nowhere. The incoming tactician also revealed that further squad adjustments will be announced by the hierarchy in due course.

“I am not at liberty to announce the players. There are still some players with contractual discussions going on,” Sibiya said.

“So I can’t confirm which players will remain or will be leaving the club. I was just mentioning Chipezeze because he is one of the players that we will be retaining. So for others, the club will make a statement at the right time in terms of who is staying with or leaving.”

On the daunting task of having to fight for immediate promotion back to the elite league, Sibiya expressed immense confidence in the core group of players at his disposal.

“Some of the players promoted the club when it was in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, so they give me confidence because they have done it before. They have promoted the club. Some of the players have promoted other clubs, not just Magesi,” he added.

“So we have players who have travelled the journey before and players who give us the courage. We still have players like Chipezeze around the club. We know their leadership and experience.”’
