Betway Premiership side Chippa United have confirmed the return of Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
On Sunday, 12 July, the Gqeberha-based outfit announced that the 29-year-old shot-stopper has re-signed with the club just five months after his departure.
Nwabali left the Chilli Boys in February 2026 after he submitted a request to leave the team. This happened in the middle of the season. However, his wish was granted by club chairman Chippa Mpengesi.
Despite heavy rumours linking him with moves to clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia following his stellar performances at the last CAF Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON], a move to a new club failed to materialise.
After spending a few months as a free agent, Nwabali has chosen to get his career back on track at his former club.
Nwabali first arrived at the Eastern Cape club from Nigeria Premier Football League [NPFL] side Katsina United in 2022.
During his first stint with Chippa, he established himself as the number one goalkeeper for the club. He made over 75 appearances across all competitions. To top it off, he kept 25 clean sheets.

The Chilli Boys released an official club statement expressing their delight at securing the services of their former captain once again.
“Chippa United Football Club is delighted to welcome Stanley Nwabali back to the Chilli Boys. After taking time away, Stanley Nwabali returns to the Eastern Cape. We are pleased to welcome him back to the club,” said the club in a statement.
“His experience, leadership and presence will once again be a valuable addition to the squad. As we continue preparations for the season ahead, we welcome him back. We wish you every success in the Chippa United colours.”
