Keletso Makgalwa has completed his move to Tanzanian giants Simba SC after opting against a late approach from newly appointed Young Africans head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, FARPost has established. The 29-year-old winger has signed his contract with Wekundu wa Msimbazi after Simba. This comes after Sekhukhune United reached a full agreement over his transfer on Saturday.
Although Mngqithi made a concerted attempt to lure the player to Yanga following his appointment, Makgalwa ultimately chose Steve Barker’s project, with indications that Simba’s contract offer proved more attractive and offered greater long-term security.
FARPost reported over the weekend that Mngqithi had personally contacted Makgalwa to hijack the move, banking on the pair’s long-standing relationship dating back to their time together at Mamelodi Sundowns. The veteran coach hoped to reunite with the winger at Yanga, who are looking to strengthen their attacking options.
However, after considering both proposals, Makgalwa opted to honour the agreement he had already reached with Simba. At The Reds, the former Sundowns academy player will be coached by South African coach Steve Barker. Barker had Rushine De Reuck and Neo Maema in his squad last season.
HOW MAKGALWA TURNED AROUND HIS CAREER
Makgalwa joined Babina Noko in July 2024 from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC. The move came after he revived his career in the second division, following loan spells with Swallows and All Stars.
Before spending one season with Bafana Ba Gucci, Makgalwa was released by Sundowns, prompting the winger to press the restart button and bring his career back on track.
He set the Motsepe Foundation alight after scoring 11 goals for Upington City in the 2023/24 season. That return ultimately earned a move to Sekhukhune at the end of that season.
The former SA youth international continued to showcase his qualities at United after receiving nominations for the Betway Premiership Footballer of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards at the 2025 PSL Awards.
At Babina Noko, Makgalwa has made 66 appearances across all competitions, scored six goals, and provided an impressive 20 assists.
