Veteran midfielder Lantshene Phalane is training with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United with the hope of securing a contract, FARPost has established.
Phalane became a free agent following the relegation of Baroka FC to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season.
The 36-year-old spent two seasons at Baroka, where he returned after stints at various clubs. This includes Moroka Swallows, Royal AM, and Bloemfontein Celtic, among others.
Phalane made his name at Baroka during their time in the third-tier league, notably featuring in the famous side that stunned Kaizer Chiefs in the 2011 Nedbank Cup quarter-finals. His standout performances during that historic cup run quickly caught the eye of top-flight clubs before Baroka themselves transitioned into a professional outfit.
His return to the club two years ago wasn’t as fruitful and was part of the club when they were demoted to the SAFA amateur ranks last campaign.

FARPost has now established that Phalane has started training with Gomora as they prepare for the 2026/27 season.

Phalane is not the only player trying his luck with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side. Winger Kagiso Selemela is also another player who has been spotted at the club.
Besides being linked with a move back to Magesi FC, Selemela has now resurfaced at Gomora. The 29-year-old was rumoured to be on his way out of Baroka in January 2026 but ended up staying at the club.
Former Stellenbosch FC right-back Basil Mphahlele has also joined the group of trialists looking to impress and earn a contract at the Malamulele-based side.
Mphahlele was once regarded as one of the talented defenders a few seasons ago. But things fell apart for the 26-year-old when he was released by Stellenbosch FC a few months after joining the club in 2023. He has since played for the likes of Moroka Swallows but was not attached to any team last season.
The three players were part of the Gomora side that recently played a friendly match against Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United in Johannesburg.
