Stellenbosch FC has announced the arrival of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego, who is joining the Winelands-based side on a season-long loan.
The highly-rated left-back will reunite with head coach Gavin Hunt after the experienced mentor brought Mashego to Durban City FC in the 2025/26 season before parting ways with the club halfway through the campaign.
Mashego impressed in the colours of Durban City last season, helping the club clinch the 2026 Nedbank Cup title. The KZN-based side won the domestic cup in their first season in the top flight after gaining promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2024/25 season.
In the previous campaign, Mashego was one of the outstanding performers for Durban City, bringing his experience of playing for Bafana Bafana and in the CAF Champions League with Sundowns.
The former TS Galaxy defender featured in 28 matches across all competitions for Durban City, helping the team also finish in the top eight on the league table.
Despite his exploits at Durban City, his parent club, Sundowns, still opted against retaining him for the upcoming season, sending him on loan to the Western Cape outfit – Stellies.
Masandawana are stacked with quality in the left-back position with players such as Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga, Thato Sibiya, Fawaaz Basadien and Asekho Tiwani fighting for a place in the starting line-up.
As a result, the Brazilians shipped Mashego to Stellenbosch to continue getting regular game time in the elite league.
Gavin Hunt’s charges unveiled Terrence Mashego on Tuesday morning, with the club CEO, Rob Benadie, admitting that the 28-year-old’s experience on the international stage will benefit the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup champions.

“Stellenbosch Football Club is delighted to announce the acquisition of defender Terrence Mashego on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns,” the club said on its website.
“Stellenbosch FC has bolstered its defence by completing the signing of Bafana Bafana international Terrence Mashego from Mamelodi Sundowns, with the left-back joining on loan for the duration of the 2026-27 campaign.
“Mashego arrives in Stellenbosch on the back of a successful loan spell with Durban City, where he was part of the squad that won the Nedbank Cup last season – his second triumph in the competition after previously being crowned champion with TS Galaxy in 2019.
“The 28-year-old also boasts an African Football League and three Betway Premiership titles to his name from his spell with Sundowns and was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that finished third at the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.”
