Mamelodi Sundowns are scheduled to resume their pre-season training camp in Austria after attending the memorial service for the late Jayden Adams in Cape Town on Thursday.
Sundowns took the decision to postpone their departure to Central Europe following the tragic death of the midfielder, Adams.
The 25-year-old star was found dead in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, on Saturday morning.
The Brazilians had been scheduled to depart for Austria on Saturday, but took a decision to remain in the country as the club came to terms with the devastating loss.
However, FARPost has established that the squad will travel to Austria immediately after attending Adams’ memorial service in Stellenbosch on Thursday. The team was scheduled to fly from Johannesburg to Cape Town early Thursday morning to attend the 9AM memorial service.
They would then return to OR Tambo International Airport later on Thursday afternoon. Sundowns are expected to board an evening flight to Austria, where they will begin their international pre-season preparations. The memorial service is expected to give teammates, club officials, family and friends an opportunity to pay their final respects before the squad embarks on its preparations for the 2026/27 season.
AUSTRIA CAMP PART OF SUNDOWNS’ PREPS FOR NEW SEASON
The Austria training camp remains a key part of Sundowns’ build-up to the new domestic and continental campaigns. Masandawana were crowned African champions after beating AS FAR Rabat in the CAF Champions League final. Adams played a key role in that victory before travelling to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Bafana Bafana.
Before the Austria trip was postponed, Sundowns had lined up a series of high-profile friendly matches against Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg on 18 July, Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv on 23 July, and Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal on 24 and 26 July.
It remains unclear whether those fixtures will proceed as originally scheduled following the delayed departure.
In addition to the Betway Premiership, which they will look to wrest from Orlando Pirates, Sundowns will kick off the season with the MTN8 campaign, followed by the Carling Knockout Cup and the Nedbank Cup.
On the continent, they will look to defend their Champions League title and capture the CAF Super Cup. Sundowns will face USM Alger, who won the CAF Confederation Cup, in the one-off continental final.
