Bafana Bafana winger Shandre Campbell is embracing a new challenge at Belgian Jupiler Pro League returnees KV Kortrijk, explaining the move from Club Brugge on a permanent transfer.
The 21-year-old is a new player at the De Kerels after struggling for game time at Club Brugge. He had joined the Blue-Black in July 2024 from SuperSport United. It is a missed opportunity to return to the UEFA Champions League with the Blue-Black in the upcoming season.
However, after just 11 league appearances and one goal last season, plus three European and two Belgian Cup matches, Campbell failed to convince Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko to keep him. This was after he started with the club’s reserve side in his first year at the club, and appeared to be making steps towards being a regular first-team player.
Interestingly, the Bafana winger arrives at the Belgian side just as Cassius Mailula left the club, returning home where he is set to be confirmed as a Mamelodi Sundowns player. Campbell looked poised for more regular playing opportunities as Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis closes in on a move to English Premier League champions Arsenal.
But Leko opted to release the South Africa international, who was at the 2025 AFCON tournament with Bafana but missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
SHANDRE CAMPBELL BOLD AFTER MOVE TO KORTRIJK
During the announcement of his arrival at Kortrijk, Campbell opened up on the new chapter of his club career.

“That’s why I’m here. A new chapter in red and white, it’s time to work.”
Kortrijk sporting director Nils Vanneste explained why they went for Campbell, especially having tasted Belgian top-flight league football.
“We are very proud to welcome Shandre Campbell to KV Kortrijk,” said Vanneste.
“With Shandre, we are bringing in someone who brings a lot of creativity, speed, and depth. Despite his young age, he has already gained experience in the Belgian First Division.
“We look forward to Shandre’s first minutes at the Guldensporen Stadion.”
